    [Product Review] Upcycled Weekender Bag

Posted on August 6, 2012 by Susan Tucker

Don't I look snazzy with my cool bag?

    I am a bag addict.

Sounds weird doesn't it? having an addiction to bags. Well, I do and it drives Hubby CRAZY. I don't need the latest and most fashionable clothing item, but I do drool over almost every cool bag I come across. To me, bags are so much more than utilitarian devices for toting personal items to and fro. For me, bags are a way to express myself, especially against my plain wardrobe. Bags are less of a commitment and a whole lot more fun.

So, needless to say, I was totally excited when Hipcycle started carrying a new line of bags a few months back.

Did I need a new bag when I ordered the Upcycled Weekender Bag? Of COURSE! It is the PERFECT size for my weekending needs, and I have plenty of them (weekending needs that is) since recently becoming a contributor to TravelingMamas.com. Every mama needs a good bag, right? And, this bag is a bag a girl can feel good about. Sweet deal!

The best thing about ordering from Hipcycle is that shipments come quickly. I had a last minute assignment last month and wanted needed a bag right away. I knew that I could depend on a quick turnaround. As usual, Hipcycle did not fail. When I saw Tim the postman trotting to my door with that brown box, I clapped like a 2-year old. (Have I mentioned I'm a bag addict?) He came just in the nic of time!

The first thing I noticed about the Upcycled Weekender Bag was that it is bigger than I expected. Wow, I can fit a lot of stuff in this bag! But, not so big that I couldn't use it as a carry on. PLUS, it has a really cool feature where the sides buckle down if you do not fill all the space inside. For this particular trip, I needed all the space I could get, but for a trip a week later, I snapped the sides down.

I also think this bag looks really cool. It was guaranteed that my bag would not get lost with the other travel bags, that's for sure! And, when asked about the unique pattern, I told people it was upcycled excess polypropylene shipping material and after a quick explanation on what upcycling is I felt pretty hip to be so ahead of the trend curve, even with these well seasoned travel professionals!

This bag is FABULOUS for camping!

The bag and I have since gone on several trips and I have to say, I love this bag! Hubby even stole it for a recent getaway and he too really liked the size and functionality of it. It has been most perfect for camping because it's so durable and easy to clean.

    Pros:
Perfect size - great for carry-on (or for tucking in the front of the passenger seat of your car)
Easy to clean - dirt, mud and grime wash right off (and it keeps everything inside safe and dry)
Great for camping or other outdoor traveling - could be an awesome beach bag when schlepping tons of kid stuff
It's Upcycled! - less waste going into the landfill

    Cons:
No wheels - better not pack it too heavy
A little loud- the polypropylene is "crunchy" but not enough for it to matter to me

This bag is too cool to pack away in the trunk!

I think every responsible mom should own one or more of these great bags. And, best of all... they are a fantastic price! Check 'em out here. Next up, I'm eyeing the Upcycled Tote Bag... wonder if I could sneak that one in.....? We'll see!

Note: even though I am an employee of Hipcycle, all opinions are my own.

Don't tell anyone, but I have an addiction to bags too. I always want to buy new laptop bags, messenger bags, duffel bags, etc. I like their gym bag on the Upcycled site!
