If you're an experimental upcycler like I am, you have more "upcycling fails" than you'd like to admit. But there is that rare occasion where what you think is a fail actually ends up to be pretty stinkin' awesome!
Today's tutorial is not at all what I was going for and a complete accident, but I went with it- and I'm glad I did!
Tools:
Protective gloves (the yellow vinyl gloves are great but I am allergic, so used my heavy-duty gardening gloves)
Tongs
Stock pot
Tall, thin glass vase
Supplies:
45 rpm record (these are the small records)
- Fill your stock pot with water and heat until it is boiling rapidly.
- Don your snazzy gloves.
- Using the tongs, place the record in the boiling water.
- Wait for the edges to begin to curl- it won't take long at all!
- Moving as fast as possible, use your tongs to take it out of the water and center it on top of the vase.
- Wiggle the record around so that the center is large enough to slip onto the vase.
- Return to water as needed until you get the desired shape, the record will naturally become wavy.
- Let set at least a couple hours.
Really, who else has a vase like this? No one! Be hip. Make a vase skirt from an upcycled record and if your friends ask... it was a LOT of hard work!
