Scrap fabric. The scourge of serious sewers, the delight of upcyclers like me. Recently I received a trash bag FULL of the stuff and was like a little kid on Christmas day. The colors! The different textures! Oh, but what to do with it!
As a fan of garlands of all kinds and a hoarder of anything paper, I had my answer.
Tools:
Scissors
Pencil
Supplies:
Twine
Scrap fabric
Cardboard
Tacky glue
Paper to upcycle (I used sheet music.)
- Determine the size circles you want to use, and trace around whatever you can find to make a cardboard circle template.
- Using a pencil, trace around the circle templates on the paper and fabric.
- Cut out.
- Match up a set of small, medium, and large circles, and use tacky glue to attach them together. Mix and match colors and textures- be creative, there are no rules here!
- Let dry.
- Squeeze a line of glue in the center of a paper circle and place a section of twine on top.
- Holding in place, press a fabric circle on top so that you have a large paper circle on one side and a large fabric circle on the other.
- Add a bit of glue if needed and hold.
- Continue along the twine in regular intervals, until the garland is the desired length.
Anyone lucky enough to have some circle hole punches would be able to get this done much more quickly, but it's fun either way! I'd love to see pictures of your versions, so please share!
