Cake Pedestal or Cupcake Pedestal Tutorial

Posted on November 4, 2011 by Leanna Reece

This is arguably the easiest upcycling tutorial the Hipcycle blog has yet seen. Since my cake pedestal broke, I have been one of the many pedestal-less individuals wandering around without an elegant way of displaying scrumptious goodies. No more! Stand back department stores, there's a new source of cupcake pedestals in town- the local thrift shop.

Wine glass + random plate = cake heaven

Some of you likely have some unmatched glassware around the house already- wine glasses, tumblers, and the like. Round those up along with any lonely plates, dishes, and saucers, and you have a recipe for visual delight!

    Tools:

    • E 6000 glue
    • A heavy book
    Supplies:
    • Something for the base
    • Something for the plate surface
    1. Yes, this really IS all you need! Just figure out what combinations of glassware and plates look good to your eye, and you're ready!
    2. Thoroughly clean your soon-to-be-upcycled kitchen items, and let air dry completely.
    3. Flip the plate or saucer over.
    4. Apply glue to the rim of the glassware and quickly set in place.
    5. Place a book on top.
    6. Let set overnight.
    7. Ponder over whether to let your friends in on your secret.... or let them assume you spent tons of money on cake or cupcake pedestals that are just your style!
