Two or three books of similar size and color comprise the bulk of this week's tutorial. This took me a good three hours or so to make, primarily because I kept getting glue from my new high heat glue gun on my fingers and hopping around in circles! So, if you go from a low heat to a high heat glue gun, get ready for some blisters, because there sure is a difference between the two!
Tools:
- Scissors
- Glue gun
Supplies:
- Glue gun sticks
- Packing tape or duct tape
- Two or three old books
- Ribbon or rope
- A few stick pins
- Leftover piece of foam pipe insulation
- In order to make the wreath form, use scissors to cut the pipe insulation into the size of wreath base that you want.
- Tape the two sides together with packing tape or duct tape and you have an upcycled wreath form!
- Tear the pages out of the books.
- Taking one or two pages at a time, loosely fold them back and forth in your hand. Avoid creasing- unless you want sharper lines of course!
- Press the "folded" page together at the bottom and apply glue in between each of the folds.
- Fold a small tab at the bottom of the page and set in desired spot on wreath.
- Continue around the wreath in a circle, making more rows as desired.
- In the center, I cut some of the pages in half lengthwise and continued as I did with the full size pages. I don't really like how that portion turned out for me, so let me know if a different technique worked for you!
- Once you have the wreath mostly covered, come back and insert a page where there is an open spot. Be sure to apply glue to both sides, and you won't need to "tab" these.
- Cut a desired length of ribbon to make the hook.
- Glue the ends of the ribbon together.
- When the glue has dried, attach the ribbon to the back of the wreath with glue and a few stick pins.
- Share your pictures and comments of your version of the wreath right here!
