Inspired by the
Glass and Paper Bowl available here on Hipcycle's website, I figured it really can't be that difficult to make. After all, it is really just strips of paper glued onto a bowl, right? Well.... I would consider this more of a fail than a success, but perhaps you'll do better than I did on this tutorial!
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Foam sponge
Supplies:
- Glass bowl or cup
- Magazine
- Quick dry craft glue
- Mod Podge
- Make some folded paper strips as in the Magazine Coaster Tutorial.
- Starting at the top, glue the paper strips onto your glass bowl or cup using craft glue.
-
This one looks SO much better than mine!
Snip off an end where they join together.
- Hold in place for at least 10 seconds to ensure it dries in place.
- Continue down the sides; I stopped where the glass started to curve as I couldn't get the paper to lay smoothly on the glass.
- Let dry overnight.
- Cover with at least two coats of Mod Podge, more if desired.
Comparing my version to Hipcycle's, mine looks incredibly cheap! If I ever made this again, I would make the paper strips thinner and use a glass item that didn't have the curves like the bottom of mine did. Then ends of mine stick out on the side, and I've tried everything I can think of to get them to lay flush on the glass.... but to no success!
If you decide to try this, please let me know how you have improved upon my attempt! In the meantime, I'll err on the side of Hipcycle for these items!
