Since I'm just not skilled enough to try my hand at duplicating our silverware napkin rings, I decided to try a different approach to making some upcycled napkin rings. Rummaging through my room of "stuff," I found all I needed to make some pretty and practical napkin rings, perfect matches for my white vintage napkins.
Before starting, determine what occasion your napkin rings will be used for. Once that's decided, it's time to start your own shopping spree in your own house! Look for old ribbon of any material, lace, and material scraps for the primary backdrop of your napkin rings. Once you have that settled, look for embellishments. Fake flower heads, vintage buttons, old Christmas ornaments, and broken pieces of jewelry are all excellent choices to finish these off.
Please note that I tried using both craft glue and quick-dry glue before settling on using a glue gun for this project. It simply works the best for this tutorial.
Tools:
- Glue gun
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Glue sticks
- Toilet paper tube
- Ribbon, scrap fabric, lace, etc.
- Buttons or other embellishments
- Old piece of cardboard
- Prepare your ribbon, lace, or fabric scraps by cutting them to the desired width and length.
- Measure circles around the toilet paper tube, the width depending on your desired width. (Mine were about 1/2" wide.) Mark with pencil.
- Cut along the lines with a craft knife.
- Glue the ribbon, lace, or fabric scrap around each cardboard napkin ring base.
- Let set.
- Glue embellishment over the area where the ribbon, lace, or fabric scrap meets.
- Let set overnight.
