So, why am I doing this?

Posted on June 5, 2011 by Andrew

That is, why am I starting Hipcycle? I've worked for other people all of my professional life, but have always had this little piece inside of me, longing to break out, that has wanted to be an entrepreneur. I have business ideas rattling around in my head all the time, and most of them involve figuring out how to use the power of business to improve our world. I think taking the plunge into entrepreneurship was just a matter of having the guts to do it, and the desire to stop working for other people! Anyway, here I am, and I want to thank you for checking in and reading this blog. In the couple of months that I have been getting Hipcycle started, I have been having a blast, the most fun ever in my professional career, and I have received a ton of encouragement.

I few weeks ago I went to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the Javitz Center in New York City to scout out some prospective Product Partners. I met a cool guy named Eric Slayton, who makes some really incredible upcycled furniture. I told him my vision for Hipcycle, and he listened politely, nodded, and said, “Make sure you do it right.”

It wasn’t as if I had planned to do otherwise prior to hearing his words, but those words have been inspirational in their simplicity nonetheless. Those words have made it onto the welcome message of Hipcycle's website, and they guide the development of this company every day. I hope that you consider supporting Hipcycle as a product Partner or as a customer and help me make sure that I keep “doing it right.”

I want to do my best to make sure that Hipcycle offers products that are useful to you, and that make you feel good about owning. I always welcome your feedback and suggestions, either in the comment field below, or by otherwise just getting in touch. Thanks for your support.
