Jazzy Button Push Pins

Most of us have jars of vintage buttons sitting around our house, just waiting to be made into something useful. Personally I had a big container of push pins, both plastic and metal. Some of the plastic ones were slightly broken off on the ends, making them perfect candidates to keep them out of the trash. We all know how scratched up metal push pins can get, and since you won’t be able to see the ends, you can pair them with any color button.

Shnazzy!

Tools:

  • None!

Supplies:

  • Flat end push pins
  • Cereal bar box (This can be done without the box, if you enjoy gluing your fingers together!)
  • Flat-back buttons
  • Super glue

Note: I strongly recommend against using traditional super glue. Head to your local craft store and you should be able to find an eco-friendly super glue- I used Green House brand and it works just as well as the toxic alternatives!

  1. Press some of the push pins through the cereal bar box, spacing them out based on the size of your buttons.
  2. Squeeze a small dab of super glue onto a couple of the push pin ends, and quickly place a button on top.
  3. Look at the box from the side to ensure that buttons are in the approximate center of the push pins. Adjust as necessary.
  4. Continue with the rest of the push pins.
  5. Let dry 24 hours at least, or longer if directed by the super glue instructions.
  6. Press the back of each button to ensure it does not come off the push pin. Expect at least a few of these, as it is difficult to know exactly how much glue is enough, yet not too much.

Now show off your stylin’ new push pins! With such a quick and easy idea, why not decoupage some Altoids tins to use as packages, and give these as upcycled gifts?
