Product Description
Few people are aware of the status of the North Atlantic Right Whale on the endangered species list, if they are even aware of its existence. Only around 400 or so North Atlantic Right Whales are believed to be in existence today, and many of them spend time in the Gulf of Maine's frigid waters every year. Since this species is obviously teetering on the brink of extinction, every one of these majestic animals matters to the survival of the species.
Unfortunately, floating groundline from lobster fishing has not proved friendly to these whales, or the many Humpbacks, Finbacks, and Minkes that call this area one of their homes. Recognizing the risk of entanglement upon these animals, lobstermen are doing their part, trading in their old equipment for new, sinking groundline that is much less likely to entangle whales.
But what to do with all of the old float rope? There is literally TONS of it!
That's where you, as a consciencious consumer, come in. Doormats hand-woven from previously used float rope are now gracing porches of whale-friendly homeowners just like you around the world. Float rope is designed to be incredibly strong and hold up to the most frigid of weather conditions, making this a doormat that will last and last. Each one of these products is unique, based on whatever float rope is on hand at the time.
